Top Ideas for a Styled Lounge at SXSW 2019
Styled lounge furniture vignettes are popping up all over parties and events both big and small these days. And we are seeing them used in so many different ways. Initially, a cute living room set was being used to create a more intimate conversation space in large ballrooms or to separate gathering areas in other big, open event spaces. Next, we saw them used to amp up the style and stage décor for a conference speaker or provide beautiful aesthetics for stage seating during a panel discussion. Now, styled lounges are showing up at happy hours intended for networking, launch events for the newest startup or and product releases, which makes these furniture vignettes the perfect thing to utilize at your SXSW booth, party or event in 2019.
The most important thing to consider when selecting the pieces to curate your own styled lounge for an Austin event is to choose pieces that fit in with the Austin-audience vibe that also contribute to the event goals and amplify the brand. Austin has it’s own unique style, we even have a phrase for it when it comes to our dress code, “Austin chic.” Just as suits and ties are considered too uptight for the area, so also are cold, stuffy conference room setups. When the goal is to make new friends and enjoy time building relationships with people from around the world the room décor needs to lead to that by being comfortable, on trend, and visually pleasing.
Here are a few of our favorite vignettes that we’ve seen around Austin in the last year.
The accent wall of stacked crates creates a lot of visual interest behind this sofa, chairs and coffee table set. They layered blue and neutral patterned rugs, topped with a wire coffee table in the center and mixed a smaller leather sofa with a large neutral sofa and blue accent chairs. This was set up at a Gather Venues (Monroe location) open house last Fall.
This lovely French antique look was at Art of the Gala and provided the perfect larger conversation setting for table topic discussions in the afternoon. The use of square ottomans for additional seating allowed more people to participate in the conversation without walling off the area. And the neutral colors of the furniture allowed the stylist to choose bright turquoise pillows that matched the event’s color theme.
These two vignettes showcase furniture already available on site at Gather Venues North Lamar which are included in the rental of the large event room. They create warm, inviting nooks for smaller groups to chat, slightly apart from the rest of the high-ceiling, more utilitarian feeling space.
Finally, consider adding some items of interest that have a really great story behind them. These chairs were used at the Mass Challenge event at the JW Marriott downtown Austin and came from an antiques collector. They were originally used during the filming of a popular TV series. This particular partner of ours has a huge assortment of vintage movie props that can be used to add some major pizzazz to your furniture and décor just because they are great conversation pieces!
