What chocolate is best for a chocolate fountain rental?

There are chocolate pellets that are formulated specifically for chocolate fountains. They are high in cocoa butter so no oil is needed. You can also use semi sweet chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate. If you do, you will need to add either canola, vegetable oil, or cocoa butter to this chocolate. The ratio would be 55% chocolate and 45% oil. If you prefer a homemade version, check out this recipe from Dazzling Hospitality.

How Much Chocolate Do you Need for a Chocolate Fountain?

If the chocolate fountain is the only sweet option being offered, then you should plan on 1 pound of chocolate for every 10 guests. If there are other sweet options available, then 1 pound of chocolate should be plenty for 20 guests.
There are three sizes of fountains that you can rent. The small chocolate fountain will serve approximately 50 people for two hours and will hold 7 pounds of chocolate. The medium size fountain will serve approximately 150 people for two hours and holds 11 pounds of chocolate. The large size fountain will serve approximately 250 people for two hours and holds 20 pounds of chocolate.

How Do You Melt Chocolate for the Fountain?

Your machine should have two heating options: heat and heat + motor. If you are using chocolate pellets specifically for a fountain, you can pour them into the base and turn to the heat only option. Let the chocolate warm for about 20 minutes stirring occasionally. When it is melted and smooth, you can turn the knob to heat + motor to get the chocolate flowing.
If your machine doesn’t have a heating option or if you are in a hurry, you can follow these direction for melting it before you put it in.
    1. Make sure the chocolate is in small pieces.
    2. If using a double boiler on the stove, fill the pot with enough water to come within an inch of the bottom of the bowl where the chocolate will be. If you are using the microwave, start with 2 minutes and then stir and then continue microwaving for 1 minute increments stirring between intervals until the chocolate is melted.
    3. If you aren’t using chocolate made for a fountain, add oil to the chocolate before adding it to the fountain (the ratio is 55% chocolate and 45% oil).
    4. Pour the chocolate into the base and turn to heat + motor. If you need to refill your chocolate, it’s best to pre-melt. You can add pellets, but it will slow down the fountain and may even clog it while the chocolate melts.

What Food is Best to Dip in a Chocolate Fountain?

What if the Chocolate Isn’t Flowing Evenly Down the Fountain?

Not enough chocolate in chocolate fountain rental

If your fountain isn’t easily flowing all around, it may be un-level. There are legs on the bottom that you can twist to lower and raise each side. Once you get the fountain even, it should flow all around.

How Do You Clean a Chocolate Fountain?

Do not pour the left over chocolate down the drain, it could harden and clog the pipes. Dispose of as much chocolate as you can into a trash can. Scrape the remaining out with a rubber spatula. After the majority of the chocolate is removed, rinse and wipe clean. Do not let the chocolate sit and harden in the fountain. It will make clean up a lot more difficult. If this does happen, reheat the chocolate and then clean as stated above.

Where is the Best Place to Put a Chocolate Fountain at an Event?

    1. Place on a sturdy surface with plenty of room for several people to use the fountain at once.
    2. Place near an electrical outlet so your cord isn’t an eyesore or a tripping hazard.
    3. Make sure there is a trash can nearby to dispose of the skewers easily.

    What else should I know?

Chocolate fountains can be very messy. In order to keep clean up easy, place your fountain on a tray so you don’t have this problem.??
