Permits and Regulations in Kansas City

KC Parks Special Event Permits
Planning to hold your event in a Kansas City park? Submit your request through the Online Park Event Request Form at kcparks.org at least 30 days in advance for a general permit, and at least 90 days in advance if you need a specific site. That’s a longer lead time than booking a typical private venue, so lock in your park date early if a park is part of the plan.

Tent and Canopy Permits
If you’re renting a tent for shade or weather backup, size matters here. Kansas City’s fire code (adopting IFC 2018, Chapter 31) requires a permit and fire-code-official approval for any tent or membrane structure over 400 square feet, so a small backyard pop-up stays under the radar, but anything approaching a standard 20×20 tent or larger will likely need sign-off.
