Wedding Venues in Minneapolis & St. Paul Worth Touring

Planning a wedding in the Twin Cities gives you a surprisingly wide range of venues to work with, from historic Minneapolis mansions and Mississippi Riverfront spaces to elegant downtown St. Paul venues and waterfront properties on Lake Minnetonka. For event planners, the challenge isn’t finding options. It’s narrowing them down to venues that align with your client’s vision, guest count, budget, and logistical needs.

This guide highlights standout wedding venues across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Lake Minnetonka, with the practical details you need to build a strong shortlist and plan your next site visits.

Riverfront Wedding Venues in Minneapolis

With three distinct event spaces along the Mississippi River, this property gives planners several ways to match the venue to a wedding’s size and style. Capacities range from intimate gatherings of around 100 guests to large celebrations of up to 500, making it a versatile option for events with guest counts across the spectrum.

Nicollet Island Pavilion

Nicollet Island Pavilion sits on the Mississippi River, with the Stone Arch Bridge and the Minneapolis skyline behind it. The building started in 1893 as an industrial boiler works before the Minneapolis Park Board restored it, and the exposed brick and tall ceilings still carry that history. Three separate spaces make this a smart first tour if your guest count isn’t locked in yet: a main ballroom that adjusts from 95 to 525 seated guests, a three-season tent that seats 50 to 125, and mingling space for cocktail-hour crowds well over 1,000.

Ask Mintahoe which of the three spaces best fits your date and headcount, since capacity varies widely across them. If the three-season tent is part of the plan, confirm its heating and cooling setup before booking a May or September date; a three-season label usually means the space wasn’t built for Minnesota’s coldest stretches, and that limitation lands right at the edges of the Twin Cities’ outdoor wedding season.

Minneapolis Historic Mansion Wedding Venues in Minneapolis

For weddings that call for historic character, Minneapolis has two standout mansion venues: Semple Mansion and Van Dusen Mansion. Both offer restored architecture and dedicated event spaces, but they differ in capacity, pricing, and vendor requirements. Here’s what planners should know when comparing the two.

Semple Mansion

Semple Mansion‘s third-floor ballroom is billed as the largest original residential ballroom in the state, a single room built in 1899 with restored frescoed ceilings, Swarovski chandeliers, and enough hardwood floor to seat 250 guests for dinner. That guest-count ceiling is the first number to check: a list past 250 rules this venue out before a tour is even worth scheduling. Beyond the ballroom, the mansion includes a Grand Foyer, a Copper Lounge, a library, and a wine grotto for cocktail hour or an after-dinner lounge, so the whole night doesn’t have to happen in one room.

Pricing changes by season here instead of staying flat. A Saturday wedding runs $5,200 in the Silver season (February through April), climbs to $6,800 in Diamond season (May through August), and tops out at $8,800 in Platinum season (September and October); the same room’s Saturday rate is more than $3,500 higher in early fall than in early spring. Ask about a Friday or Sunday date if the Saturday premium doesn’t fit the budget; Sunday pricing stays under $4,000 in every season.

The rental fee covers tables, chairs, and setup and cleanup, but on-site parking for up to 100 vehicles runs $485 separately. Budget for that parking fee from the start, since street parking in this residential district won’t cover a full guest list.

Van Dusen Mansion

Van Dusen Mansion‘s pink quartzite facade and Romanesque details survived a demolition permit before a restoration turned the building into an event venue, a rescue story most couples touring it don’t hear until they ask. The mansion tops out at 175 seated guests, well below Semple Mansion‘s 250-guest ceiling, so a couple choosing between the two mansions should start with guest count before comparing anything else.

St. Paul Downtown Wedding Venues in Minneapolis

St. Paul’s downtown core offers two different venue types within walking distance of each other: one fully modern, one fully historic. Choosing between them comes down to aesthetic more than budget, since both handle guest counts in the hundreds.

St. Paul Event Center

St. Paul Event Center fills 14,000 square feet in one open room plus an attached lounge, with floor-to-ceiling windows that pull in daylight for a daytime wedding or city lights after dark. That single adjustable space handles 50 seated guests on one end and 420 on the other, with standing receptions up to 680, so an intimate wedding and a large one can both work here without renting a different building downtown.

There is no required vendor list and no food and beverage minimum here, unusual for a downtown venue this size, which keeps catering and bar choices open instead of locked to an in-house team. Parking is attached to the building, so guests skip the street-parking hunt that’s common at other downtown venues. Confirm the booking lead time before settling on a date; flexible capacity and downtown convenience make weekend dates here compete with venues on both sides of the river.

Landmark Center

Landmark Center‘s public-building status differs from what most private venues require: Ramsey County owns the building, and Minnesota Landmarks, a nonprofit, manages event bookings through its own events department rather than a private sales team. A phone call or email to that department gets a faster answer on a date than the online contact form.

Four room sizes solve four different wedding scales in the same historic building. The skylit Musser Cortile seats 320 for dinner and dancing, or up to 750 for a standing reception, and works as the building’s main attraction with its Italian Renaissance atrium and natural light. Four restored courtrooms, the Ramsey County Room, the Butler Room, the Sanborn Room, and the Chief Justice Room, seat anywhere from 20 to 80 for a smaller dinner, so a couple planning an intimate wedding doesn’t have to book the same oversized atrium as a 700-guest reception.

Downtown parking applies here the same way it does a few blocks away at St. Paul Event Center: plan for a ramp or garage, since street spots won’t cover a guest list of any size. Popular Saturday dates in the Cortile book out furthest in advance, so check the online availability calendar early in the planning process.

Lake Minnetonka and Western Suburb Wedding Venues in Minneapolis

For couples looking beyond downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, Lake Minnetonka offers waterfront venues with a setting that feels distinctly removed from the city. The two properties below pair lake views with event spaces designed for larger celebrations, each with different capacities, amenities, and planning considerations.

The Hotel Landing

The Hotel Landing sits in downtown Wayzata near the Lake Minnetonka waterfront, with both indoor and outdoor event spaces. The Wayzata Ballroom seats up to 168 guests, while the Great Lawn accommodates up to 200. The hotel also lists two mezzanine porches for gatherings of up to 40 guests. For weddings using the Great Lawn, ask the venue which indoor space is available as a weather backup, since the hotel does not detail its rain plan online. On-site accommodations are also available for the wedding party and guests.

Noerenberg Gardens

Noerenberg Gardens sits on Crystal Bay, part of Lake Minnetonka, and the Three Rivers Park District built six ceremony sites around a century-old collection of gardens: a colonnade, a boathouse gazebo, and rows of ornamental trees and daylilies planted long before any of today’s couples were born. The setting works for an outdoor garden ceremony, since there’s no indoor space attached to any of the six sites.

That missing indoor backup makes Noerenberg the highest weather-risk choice among Twin Cities wedding venues. Book Noerenberg only if a tent is already part of the plan; Three Rivers Park District rents ceremony chairs for three-hour events but nothing that would shelter a ceremony from rain or an early or late-season cold front.

Reservations run May through mid-October only, matching the Twin Cities’ outdoor wedding season, and three-hour weekend bookings fill Friday through Sunday during peak summer months.

What You’ll Still Need to Rent for a Twin Cities Wedding

Whichever venue ends up in the contract, a few rental categories apply regardless of which side of the metro it’s on.

  • Tenting for any outdoor or semi-outdoor ceremony without a confirmed indoor backup: Noerenberg Gardens’ outdoor-only sites, Nicollet Island Pavilion’s three-season tent space in shoulder-season months, and The Hotel Landing’s Great Lawn all fall into this category. A large tent or canopy rental provides both rain protection and shade for a summer afternoon ceremony.
  • Round linens for the reception tables, no matter which venue is booked. Renting linens means they arrive pressed and ready instead of needing to be washed and ironed the week of the wedding.
  • Patio and tent heaters for a May, September, or October date: a 30-degree overnight temperature swing during a Twin Cities shoulder-season cold front turns a comfortable outdoor cocktail hour into one guests want to leave early.

If your venue requires additional equipment, check the availability of tents, heaters, and other rentals as you finalize your event plans.
